We should know by now that smoking is a disgusting habit. It contributes to diseases like cancer, heart disease, cardiovascular diseases and lung disease among others. It is also the most preventable cause of premature death. Why? Because smoking is a lifestyle choice and the decision to light up or not to light up is in our own hands.

But we still can see people around us enjoying their cigarette sticks like it is nobody’s business. A closer look in the world of fashion and entertainment; smoking seems to be “back in fashion” according to some people. It’s evident when Lady Gaga was seen in her video for “Telephone” smoking (and wearing sunglasses made out of cigarette) in prison. And who can forget Kate Moss walking down the runway for Louis Vuitton at Paris Fashion Week with a cigarette stick in one hand.

When it comes to Hollywood, it is pretty much the same scenario. The celebs can still be seen chilling out and being photographed by the paparazzi while smoking away. We’re talking about celebs like Charlize Theron and Kate Hudson who are both mothers that a lot of fans look up to. And other teen favorites like Lily Allen and Paris Hilton who happily smoke while going out at night partying.

Well it’s all in our heads. We can either keep thinking that it makes us look super cool or it’s just a bad habit that will harm ourselves and people around us. Change of mindset is all we need. And these celebs and models should seriously stop glorifying the habit because there’s nothing cool about it.
